The Olympian’s New Clothes

Former Track and Field star, Bruce Jenner, has now decided that he’s a woman.

Hmmm . . .

And we’re supposed to call him Caitlyn and accept his proposal that his gender has somehow been mistaken, or misapprehended, or missomethinged all these years.

The famous athlete told ABC 20/20 host, Dianne Sawyer,

“My brain is much more female than it is male, it’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.”

I have just one question. Why?

What is the reason Bruce Jenner – or (ahem) Caitlyn – believes this to be so. What evidence can he/she offer for his/her redress of his/her gender regarding the species variation of his/her assignation of masculinity/femininity?

Lest you think my inquiry fanciful or self-aggrandizing, I assure you there’s substance to the wherefore of my investigation.

To find said substance, let us look at Bruce/Caitlyn’s credentials for such a restrictive and pinpointed analysis of one particular subject of our kind, in particular, Bruce/Caitlyn, a single member of the current taxonomically adjudicated being we know as the human species.

From what I can glean from Mr./Ms. Jenner’s well-known career, it would seem that it is centered mostly in the sports world, with offshoots into broadcasting, advertisement, some product endorsements, the odd television interview, and a few cereal box photos peppered here and there. Yet in all that I have seen of the public life of our boy/girl track star, I have yet to find anything aligned with or remotely related to the medical research, neurology, biological or human anatomy and physiology field.

Seems the once macho sports star man’s man turned bathing beauty has no medical training in his/her background at all.

Yet somehow, the MainStream Media (naturally), including some on Fox News, has deemed him if not an expert, at least entirely knowledgable in the realm of bio-structural and human anatomical gender studies.

Why?

Apparently, they’re all deferring to Mr./Ms. Jenner on the subject of male female differentiation regarding the human animal, so far as I can tell, simply because he/she is the one to whom this medical assessment is attributed.

It’s his/her body, so of course we should buy it.

And to top it off, not only are all physical and biological evidence clearly locking him/her into one specific gender category being ignored, Mr./Ms. Jenner claims to have some heightened insight – apparently over and above the rest of us – into the etherial and supernatural realm as well.

“. . . but that’s what my soul is.”

So not only is Bruce/Caitlyn’s opinion the final word regarding biology, it should be take as such in the spiritual world as well.

(Just for the record, I didn’t find any ecclesiastical, clerical, or theological training in his/her background either)

If Bruce/Caitlyn would have declared that a brain surgeon is what his soul is, should we hand over a gown and a scalpel?

All of the above brings about another question, one of, again, taxonomy within the parameters of epistemology, more simply, how do we know one ‘thing’ from another ‘thing?’ How do we know a dog from a fly? How do we know a hammer from a washing machine? How do we know a man from a woman? Can a hammer’s “soul” spin rinse a load of clothes? Can a washing machine’s “soul” drive in a nail?

Can Caitlyn Jenner donate a fallopian tube?

I’m a big, hairy, blonde-haired, blue-eyed Nordic guy with Germanic ancestry from Oklahoma. If I claimed that my “soul” was a smooth-skinned, black African from Nigeria and changed my accent to a clipped halting cadence, should all my friends and family and everyone else nod their heads and furrow their brows and tell me how courageous I am? A mere generation ago, Bruce Jenner would have been treated medically for his sad and unfortunate condition.

But it isn’t a generation ago, is it?

It’s now. It’s a time when a child is disciplined by a school principal for the terrorist act of telling another child his magic ring can make him disappear. It’s a time where a President can molest a young woman in the White House and keep his position as his voters snicker at his wanton act. It’s a time where a Secretary of State can destroy evidence and hide her emails from the public and and her country and still run for the supreme head of our nation, a time where babies are murdered by the millions and that’s considered moral and compassionate.

And, it’s a time where a guy can be considered a woman just because he feels like one.

“Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Nee at will to old ladies.”

Those of you who get the above line will easily connect the illustration, then, after the smile fades, will probably be a bit depressed.

Yeah, me too pal, me too.
